With the Iran-Israel military conflict entering the fourth day, Iran on Monday, June 16, launched a slew of missile attacks killing at least eight Israelis. Israel, on the other hand, claimed it had achieved air superiority over the Iranian capital and could fly over the city without facing major threats. It also warned residents of part of Tehran to evacuate, reported AP.
Against this backdrop, a video which appears to be captured from the rooftop of a building, and shows numerous missiles being fired simultaneously, has gone viral on social media platforms. A large number of users are sharing this video online, claiming that it is connected to the current escalations between Iran and Israel.
BJP supporter Roshan Sinha, who amplifies propaganda and misinformation on a regular basis, shared the video on X connecting it to the ongoing conflict. He later deleted the tweet. (Archived link)
X user Major Surendra Poonia also shared the same video through a tweet. In his post, he claimed that Israel was conducting targeted strikes on the residential addresses of top political and military leaders in Tehran, as well as on Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities. Journalist Sachin Gupta also amplified the video linking it to the ongoing Iran-Israel hostility. He, too, deleted the tweet later. (Archived link)
Fact Check
We performed a reverse image search using several frames taken from the viral footage. This led us to a match with a video previously uploaded to the official YouTube channel of India’s state-run broadcaster, Doordarshan, on October 2, 2024. The caption of that video mentions that it shows a missile attack by Iran targeting the Nevatim airbase, located in Israel’s Negev desert. This confirms the viral video being circulated is not from the current Iran-Israel conflict.
In addition, a news article dated October 2024 by Dantri, a state-run news outlet in Vietnam, attributes the viral footage to an incident that occurred between October 1 and 2, 2024, during which Iran launched a massive missile attack on Israeli targets.
To sum up, a number of social media users circulated an old video showing Iran’s missile attack on Israel, falsely linking it to the ongoing military conflict between the two countries. The same video was also previously shared online in connection with the tensions between India and Pakistan in May 2025, and had been fact-checked by Alt News.
